Return to Roundism

After a bunch of landscapes and cityscapes I felt it was time to return to my roundism ladies. For me changing the theme once in a while is very useful. I forget about model sketching for a while because I was occupied sketching outdoors (see my graphite pencil drawing ‘Voorburg – 01-06-19’). Maybe it is because I would like to see what happens after some time. It may be just so sketching landscapes also will affect my nudes on paper and by this process I keep from getting stuck in a style.

Inspiration

Surely I was inspired by the model in the reference picture showing attractive triangles and I decided to focus on the rhythym tonal values show, contrasting abrupt contour delineations with gradual transitions. As can be noted I wanted strong repetitions of light, dark, light, dark, etc. That is the rhythym I talk about!

Straight and Slanted

If the spectator has a keen eye on art, he or she also can discover the balance in horizontals, verticals and diagonals. Unfortunately this is not invented by me, as I took this picture out of a magazine but my added value, next to drawing it, also is the recognition of it.
