Sergio Gaytán

I’m a visual artist mainly focused on drawing and its fascinating immediacy. To me, the extraordinary transition from subject to image is awe-inspiring and a constant source of wonder. For many decades now, I have been developing the fluidity of my strokes, embracing accidents and chaotic mark-making which suddenly assume a synergic identity of their own coming into existence. I aspire to make assertive and expressive strokes. I play within specific conditions to achieve this: 

• I establish an assertive attitude, leaving hesitation behind; 

• I don't erase; every stroke counts and stays as part of the final artwork.

• My sense of proportions grows based on fluidity of the practice, not by mechanical measuring;

• Focus and observation induce a meditative state.

• An intuitive mindset guides; perception dictates, the hand responds with intention.

• Everything is rendered in a synergetic continuum.

Each viewer resonates with the artwork differently. Art has the power to challenge preconceptions, asking questions in an intimate and personal manner.
